AIRMEN COMMUNICATION 7/11/22

Hello Arthur School Family!

We hope you all have been enjoying your summer! This communication will inform you of the upcoming events and items needed in advance of the 2022-23 school year! August is just around the corner! Here's what you need to know:

RETURNING STUDENT ORIENTATION: We will be welcoming our returning Airmen back to campus on July 26th from 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM for our 9th and 10th grade orientation. During this event, students will be assessed in English and Math for their class placements, get their ID photos taken, and meet their teachers for this year.

FULL UNIFORM IS REQUIRED. This year we will be strictly enforcing our uniform policy and standards so please, take the coming weeks to ensure your young man has everything he needs before the start of school.

The Arthur School will be providing transportation to and from Orientation. The Arthur School's Dean of Students will coordinate with our provider Calvin Transportation to ensure all students are picked up at or near the addresses provided. I will be communicating with each of you individually in the coming days to verify your son's basic information. If you have changed addresses over the summer or need to indicate a new pick up location, please reply back with your new address. In any case, you should still expect a call this week.

RE-REGISTRATION FORMS: Each year your son returns to The Arthur School, there will be a few pieces of information we will need updated annually. Consider this your re-registration. The State/Parish documents that need to be resubmitted are:

  • Louisiana Residency Questionnaire Form

  • Ochsner Nurse Consent Form

  • Updated Proof of Residency

In addition, each year we will ask you to verify some of the information collected upon your initial registration. This will allow us to update any changes in your son's documentation and ensure it is current for the 22-23 school year. (Phone call this week) Please send your son to Orientation with the completed State/Parish documents.

CALENDAR: Above the calendar section of our website, you will see our new calendar for 2022-2023. This calendar itemizes all major academic dates and school activities expected for the year. Please save the date for the Emily Hattier Sixkiller Convocation & Matriculation Ceremony on Sunday, August 14th. This event is incredibly important for Airmen Families to attend, please make every effort to be there - time and location are forthcoming.

PREPARING FOR AUGUST 2: As you know, our first day of school is August 2nd. What you may not know, are all of the pieces we have set in motion to make the 22-23 School Year better than our last. I'd like to take this time to give you a glimpse of what you and your son can expect coming into this new year.

Since May 31st, The Arthur School's Leadership team has been working tirelessly to ensure that our Sophomore year is as successful as possible. Here's just some of what we've been up to:

  • We've refreshed our policies and handbooks for both Students and Faculty;

  • We are completing the second story renovation of our building to make room for the Class of 2026 and the Class of 2027, both joining us this year;

  • We've added two experienced, passionate individuals to our Leadership Team:

    • Mr. Darrin Bedell has joined us as our new Dean of Students. Mr. Bedell is an experienced disciplinarian and plans to expand upon the work of Former Dean Franklin, charting an even brighter path for our all of our young men;

    • Dr. Joel Livingston has joined The Arthur School Family in the capacity of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Director. Dr. Livingston has taught in New York, Connecticut, and previously has worked as an Assistant Principal in the Orleans Parish School District. His zeal for young people and his dedication to excellence will be a great asset in the education of our young men. He will also teach 8th Grade English.

We are going to be asking a lot more from your young men this year. Not only academically, but in regards to their conduct, their self-presentation, and their ability to do more than the minimum.

The Arthur School opened with the mission to prepare our students to use their intelligence for the benefit of the communities in which they live. Those who make great change in their communities rarely exhibit qualities like complacency or simply meeting what is average. So we won't either. We are all making these strides together. Our hope is that the dedication and improvements we've made will have a positive, noticeable, and lasting impact on your son. Our commitment to providing an equitable, personalized education is as strong as ever.

The 6 Airmen Principles we ask our students to embody are exactly the mantras we use to educate them. This year we're emphasizing each one tenfold:

1. Aim High

2. Believe in Yourself

3. Use Your Brain

4. Be Ready to Go

5. Never Quit

6. Expect to Win

Finally, of all that will be new this year, rest assured that one thing will stay the same: The love that each and every one of our faculty and staff members has for your son. The same love that our namesake, Mrs. Arthur, gave to her students for decades- every day we strive to honor that outstanding legacy.

With these themes in mind, we could not be more excited to have your young men back in flight.

It's time to get ready, Arthur School Family, because we're almost time for take off.
