AIRMEN COMMUNICATION 3/21/22

Updated: Mar 24, 2022

It's the start of a new week and we have lots of exciting news and announcements to share with you. Here's what you need to know:

SPRING ACADEMIC CONFERENCES: From 5:30-8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23rd, we will be hosting Academic Conferences here on campus! This will be our second and last academic conference session for this year. This will also be the evening you will receive your son's report card! If you haven't signed up yet, please take a moment to select your times and the teachers you'd like to meet with. We will only be honoring the appointments in which we see parents are signed up for. You are welcome to come without setting up an appointment, however, that is not recommended. Once all reserved appointments are complete, we will end conferences. Our teachers have to be up and ready to give your sons their best Thursday morning, so please help make this evening a success by reserving your spot today. Meetings are held in 5 minute increments. Parking is available in the Wisteria St. Lot, accessible from Gentilly Blvd. and Wisteria St. See you there!

OCHSNER HEARING/VISION TEST: As you were informed by our School Nurse, Mr. Woods, Ochsner is offering free Hearing and Vision tests to all students on Wednesday during school hours. Your son will be sent home with a permission waiver, but I have also attached one to this email for your convenience. Simply sign the waiver for your son to receive this test. (Often times, inadequate academic performance is linked to an undiagnosed hearing or vision deficit, this is a great opportunity to ensure your child has all the tools he needs to succeed.)

Q2 + Q3 ACADEMIC AWARDS: Due to the events that precluded our ability to hold Q2 Academic Awards, we will be recognizing our students' achievement in both Q2 + Q3 in one Academic Awards Ceremony. On Friday, April 8th at 8:00 AM in the Arthur School Gymnasium, we invite you to join us in celebrating our young men who have made strides in their educational journey. Save the date!

SCHOOL SUPPLIES REMINDER: By teacher request, please check in with your Airman to ensure that he has all school supplies needed in order to complete his work for the day. We can (and have been) providing pencils, pens, paper, erasers, and other materials to the best of our ability but it would be a greatly appreciated if more students are prepared for each school day!

COVID-19: Of the 10 Faculty Members and 28 students tested for COVID-19 on 3/17, our results yielded 1 positive test result for COVID-19 in our student population. That student is absent from school today. We will be partnering with his parents to ensure he is healthy and can continue in-person learning when it is safe to do so.

ON THE HORIZON: I'd like to end our communication by alluding to what you can expect this week and in the weeks to come, here's what's in the works in the near future -

  • PowerSchool Access

    • As you may be aware, the software that The Arthur School uses to store and report student data is called PowerSchool SIS. We have been working since the beginning of the school year to optimize this system to better help our teachers and students keep track of our Airmen's progress and information. Despite challenges outside of our control, we are now closer than ever to opening up a portal for students and parents to track academic progress as it is entered by teachers! Please stay tuned for more communication regarding this exciting development.

  • Portrait Day(s)

    • As we begin to look toward the end of the year and spring convocation, we are beginning to compile our first ever Airmen Yearbook! This means we will be capturing our students' portraits for the archives. For scheduling reasons and with the flexibility afforded to us by having an in-house photographer, we will likely stretch these Portrait Days throughout one week in April. I will ensure everyone will have at least a week's notice in advance so that all of our young men are prepared to look their best!

That is all that I have for you today. As always, thank you for reading and let's have a great week!

See you at Spring Conferences!
